"La Pulga y el Piojo" (The Flea And The Louse)
by Serenata Guayanesa
by Serenata Guayanesa
The story is based on a children’s song typical from Venezuela. The song relates the story of a Louse and a Flea that wants to get married. Each verse starts with the sentence “the flea and the louse wants to get married, but they can’t get married for lack of _________ .“ After that, a new character appears in the story replying on whatever they were asking for. (Everything rhymes at the end in Spanish).
The Flea and the Louse wants to get married,
But they can’t get married for lack of bread,
The snout beetle replied from his wheat field,
Lets have the weeding, I’ll bring the bread.
Now its not for the bread, which we already have,
Now is the light, where can we find it?
The firefly replied from his forest
Lets have the wedding, I’ll go to light.
(And so on…)
